About Me
Hello everyone! My name is Thomas Michael Murphy. I want to share a bit about who I am and the magical journey I've been on thus far.
Childhood
I was born an independent adventurer and explorer. I am told I was a loud and whiny child until I learned to walk, and then I was as happy as can be! I grew up running around outside playing games and sports. My favorite thing to do was to build worlds in my imagination, largely based on epic fantasy worlds like Lord of the Rings and Star Wars, and take my brother and neighborhood friends on adventures.
As a kid, and still to this day, my favorite movie characters were the wise old wizards, sages, masters, gurus, etc. (Gandalf, Yoda). Now, I’m finally coming full circle and realizing my dream of becoming a magical being in a magical world!
Student-Athlete Years
In high school and into college, I consciously and unconsciously took the “golden child” path, focusing heavily on academics and athletics. I had a heavy dose of competitiveness in me. My entire academic and athletic career was packed with intensity. I became a three-sport captain in high school (football, basketball, baseball) including playing quarterback. I continued my student-athlete career, playing both football and baseball at Williams College.
Through this journey, I learned so many invaluable lessons; particularly, discipline, patience, physical wellness, and self-confidence. I also gained a deep appreciation for teamwork and the importance of working together towards a collaborative goal. These themes continue to resonate in my life, as building and leading in community is a deeply felt call in my heart.
Environmentalist/Adventurer
As I was approaching my last year of college, my love for the Earth resurged within me and blossomed. I eventually earned my degree in Environmental Policy, yet was becoming disillusioned with American and global cultural systems. The perpetual negligence and failure to address the consequences of the way we treat the environment left me feeling lost. I wanted to help the planet but didn't know where to start.
In addition, the high pressure and heavy weight of athletics and academics had taken a toll on me. I decided to embark on a solo road trip across the country and participated in a work exchange program, “Willing Workers on Organic Farms” (WWOOF-USA). This was a magical time for me to explore, meet new people, and work with the beautiful land.
I returned home to Boston in November, and within one month, I got a call from a former college teammate asking me to quarterback for the Valencia Firebats based out of Spain. So I surrendered to my heart and went on another adventure! It was an amazing experience and the perfect final chapter to my athletic career.
Upon returning, I found a job as an Environmental Scientist at a Consulting Firm and worked there for two years before being let go.
Death/Rebirth Cycle Begins
During my unemployment I noticed many aspects of my life starting to fall away. It was time to look hard in the mirror and get curious about who I was, what I wanted, and what no longer felt aligned. This was the first real encounter with the death of my sense of self. Until this time, my ego and identity were deeply attached to the academic, athletic, and social systems I grew up with.
In late 2019 I ended an eleven-year relationship, which shattered my reality and gave birth to a new version of myself. Until this moment, I had always been making decisions with her in mind. It was time for me to make choices based on the life I wanted to live and the man I wanted to become.
Conscious Spiritual Path Dawns
Amidst the pandemic and the changes in the world, my curious and independent nature became ever-present. I explored myself through interacting with the world in a new way. In 2021 I attended my first electronic musical festival and it was by far one of the most transformational experiences of my life. I was inspired by the spiritual, community-driven lifestyle it fostered. The space was magical and it cracked my heart open. I was forever changed.
Another factor that contributed to my commitment on the spiritual path came from my experimentation with psychedelics and plant medicine. These substances pulled me deeper into my heart, which has now become my guiding compass. During this time when I was accessing higher states of consciousness, I was rapidly changing inside. My outer life, however, had not changed as much as I would have liked.
Finding Spiritual Community
In 2023, I joined Aubrey Marcus’ Fit For Service, a spiritual community program filled with coaches and leaders to help members find a deeper sense of who they are and their calling to service.
By the second in-person gathering, I was completely transformed by this community and was inspired by how much growth happens when we intentionally gather together. Eventually, In August of 2023, I quit my job and completely let my old self die. It was time for my Higher Self to be born.
A Surrendered Soul
Over the last year, I have traveled all over the country and world discovering new cultures, customs, and listening deeply to my soul. I surrendered to my heart and found it on fire with life. This path has led me to amazing people and experiences that have helped me become who I am today.
Most recently I have found a deep sense of alignment with who I truly am and what I have to offer this world. Amongst many other spiritual practices, the contemplation of the Gene Keys, and the mentorship of Richard Rudd have been the most profound work of my life.
Through my contemplation, I have found a gentle path to my heart and soul’s awakening. I have found purpose in just being, and surrendering to the natural cycles of life. Through this practice, I connected with my gifts and am using them to help others navigate their own life's journey. I sense the magic of the universe flowing through me and am blessed to know myself this intimately. My life is filled with love and gratitude, and it is my honor to share it with you.
